New Works Festival
02.19.2014 - 03.02.2014
Theater Performance

The new work festival will feature several different new plays in
development. The main feature of the festival will be "Welcome to Campus" a

collaboration with Swim Pony Performing Arts as part of the Mandell
Professionals in Residence Project. This will be developed by Drexel
students working alongside professional directors and artists. The play
will put the audience through a simulated college tour of the Drexel campus,
stopping at important spots in the lives of the students giving the tour.
The performance will begin in the URBN Annex Black Box Theater and culminate
in the Mandell Theater. This performance is made possible in part by a grant
from the Samuel P. Mandell Foundation.

In addition there will be readings of new plays including a brand new
adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities by Jane Jones from
Book-It-Repertory Theater in Seattle. Students will study with a protégé of
Ms. Jones during the winter quarter and then rehearse a reading of this new
work with Ms. Jones when she comes to Philadelphia at the end of February.
This reading and the residency with Jane Jones is made possible by a grant
from the Westphal College's Rankin Scholar in Residence Program.

The final aspect of the new works festival will be readings of scripts
written by students from Drexel Screenwriting/Playwriting Program. These
will be directed by theater faculty member Bill Fennelly with dramaturgy by
Screenwriting faculty member Bruce Graham.
